Talent – Michael Cerveris

MICHAEL CERVERIS is a two-time Tony Award and Grammy Award winning actor for Fun Home, The Who’s Tommy, and Assassins, (also Lucille Lortel Award) with additional Tony nominations for Evita, LoveMusik, and John Doyle’s Sweeney Todd.

Television series include five seasons as September, The Observer on “Fringe.” Lazlo Valentine/Professor Pyg on “Gotham,” RamsesIV on “The Tick,” the voice of the Demon Psychiatrist in “Evil,” voice of Dr. Manhattan in the animated Watchmen, Tedd Gunn in David Fincher’s “Mindhunter,” Watson in Julian Fellowes’ “The Gilded Age” for HBO, Showtime’s “Billions,” Stephen Soderberg’s “Mosaic,” and “The Knick,” David Simon’s “The Plot Against America,” and “Tremé,” “Blacklist,” “Madame Secretary,” and “The Good Wife.”

Films include Elihas Starr in Ant Man and The Wasp, Cirque Du Freak and The Mexican. Concerts include New York City Opera, National Symphony in DC New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, New Orleans’ JazzFest and a US/UK tour playing guitar for punk icon Bob Mould. Cerveris has recorded three solo albums, ‘Dog Eared,’ ‘Piety,’ and ‘Hinterlands.’ and most recently, Someone’s Monster, the new album from his New Orleans based Americana band, Loose Cattle, with guests Lucinda Williams and Patterson Hood and Jay Gonzalez of the Drive By Truckers.

Other Broadway includes In The Next Room, Hedda Gabler, Cymbeline, and Titanic. Off-Broadway includes King Lear, Macbeth, Abingdon Square, Nikolai and the Others, Sondheim’s Road Show, an oak tree, and The Games at BAM/Next Wave with Meredith Monk and Ping Chong, as well as Hedwig off-Broadway, in Los Angeles and on London’s West End.

The UNITED STATES CONFERENCE OF MAYORS and the Board of Directors of AMERICANS FOR THE ARTS, honored Cerveris in 2017 with The Citizen-Artist Award which “recognizes artists who have made the highest contributions both in their professional artistic endeavors to advance the arts as well as in their personal charitable pursuits to improve the world.”

Michael attended Gallaher Elementary, Beverly Hills Junior High School and Huntington East High School in his hometown of Huntington West Virginia. He also graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and received a Bachelor’s degree in the Humanities with an emphasis in Theater Studies from Yale University, graduating cum laude. He holds an Honorary Doctorate in the Humanities from Wilson College.
